God designed spiritual life such that we can't get to the boiling point, or stay there, without the experience of consistent serving. There's a kind of spiritual growth that occurs only when we serve. We are urged to consider the catalytic force of Jesus Christ who came not to be served but to serve. The different spiritual gifts are presented, and we are encouraged to determine our gifts and then develop them for the common good of our church. We are challenged to consider our interests and passions when determining where and how we will use our gifts. We must choose whether we will live self-serving lives or lives focused outwardly on God and others. We are called to get out of the spectators' stands, use our gifts in our high-interest areas, and experience the huge rewards of serving.
