What's Happening Where You Are | What Other Leaders Are Doing | What People Are Saying

I have the privilege of taking part in Leader's Gatherings that happen throughout the year at Leadership Summit host sites. These intimate meetings are powerfully cohesive times. Leaders from all walks of life are encouraged to harness their passion and vision to further the cause of Christ in the local church and around the world. I'm deeply thankful for Summit site hosts and the WCA's Church Relations team, for their leadership and service in connecting with leaders and churches in their communities. > Read More

The ongoing problems in business leadership over the past five years have underscored the need for a new kind of leader in the 21st century: the authentic leader. Author Bill George interviewed 125 business leaders from different racial, religious, national, and socioeconomic backgrounds to understand how leaders become, and remain, authentic. Their interviews showed that you do not have to be born with any particular characteristics or traits to lead. You also do not have to be at the top of your organization. Anyone can learn to be an authentic leader.

In my role as the WCA Leadership Segment's Director of Content Development, and more importantly as I respond to the call of leadership in my own life, I am encouraged more and more by how eager leaders are to engage challenging issues. Working constantly with people driven by a sense of passion and holy desperation inspires me and puts incredible energy into the planning of The Leadership Summit. The peer-to-peer interactions and conversations that happen outside the session format at the Summit are so important—they give us all a chance to process together and to learn from other leaders. > Read More

An abandoned bait shop seems like an unlikely venue for the Kingdom of God. Spend some time with the original members of Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, Texas, however, and you'll hear a unique story: a simple tale about a ministry door, and the people who walked through it. On June 17, 1979, when there weren't any rental properties or school buildings to lease, a handful of twenty people gathered in that abandoned bait shop with the common goal of reaching the many young couples that were moving into their community, and the church was born.

The Leadership Summit in Canada, eh?
In 2000, The Leadership Summit was broadcast across the Canadian border for the first time to two locations with the help of the WCA's affiliate, The Leadership Centre Willow Creek Canada. Just under 800 Canadians in Calgary and Toronto watched Bill Hybels, Ken Blanchard, Gary Smalley, Rich DeVos, and Bill Clinton that year. In 2007, 8,220 Canadians representing nearly 1,000 churches took part in The Leadership Summit live in 19 sites, from coast-to-coast, in six time zones (It's true. Canada has six time zones!). That is a ten-fold increase in just seven years, and for 2008 a 20th site has been added and over 9,000 people are expected to participate. > Read More
